The tour was quiet cheap (compared to Brugge next day) and we got a tour guide who spoke English very well (like most young Dutch speakers, it seems). As we were told, the canals having been cleaned up recently, as part of a 20 year plan to make Ghent a tourist mecca on par with Brugge.
