A friend called me on Sunday morning suggesting that we go to the Marina to see Queen Mary (or more precisely “Queen Mary 2”) – the largest ship to ever pass under the Golden Gate Bridge, with bare 10 meters of clearance. (As I later read, QM is the tallest ship in the world – and until last year the largest by tonnage – so the fact that it’s the tallest ship to pass under the bridge just follows a forteriori.) It was in fact quite a cite. Most amusing perhaps was the assortment of “groupie” boats following QM as it was entering the bay. And of course there was a huge number of people like us observing the entrance from the marina.
