Right between Ipanema and Copabana there is a small peninsular, with a small fortress known as Forte de Copabana. It’s often closed and when open charges admission, so it’s not a road you would take if walking from Copacabana to Ipanema. Two weeks ago, however, we were passing by, it was open, so we went in. The fortress itself is a typical early 20th century fortification, much like the ones in Vladivostok, actually. But the views of Copacabana from it are quite nice.
