(This entry should have gone up together with the paris ones but the photos didn’t upload properly.)
After leaving Paris we were thinking of going to Chartres, but ended up on the road to Versailles instead and decided it was destiny. Having seen St. Petersburg, it is hard to be super impressed by palaces, even such as Versailles, but it was interesting. The gardens were a bit disappointing, as it turned out that they only turn the fountains on once a week. (Peter’s engineers were smarter and made the fountains of Peterhof run on natural pressure of a lake up the hill, so they don’t have to turn them off to conserve water or energy.)
