Having seen St. Petersburg, it is hard to be super impressed by palaces, even such as Versailles, but it was interesting. The gardens were a bit disappointing, as it turned out that they only turn the fountains on once a week. (Peter's engineers were smarter and made the fountains of Peterhof run on natural pressure of a lake up the hill, so they don't have to turn them off to conserve water or energy.)
